I like our winter, with its two extremes. One day, the skies are clear, and it’s nice and warm outside, like European summer. Another day, on the other hand – an end-of-the-world storm is raging, with rain and crazy winds. There’s no middle ground!
This winter’s much talked-about storm finally arrived, and with it – the freezing cold that begs for really warm clothes (a rare opportunity in Israel). On the first day of the storm it was literally impossible to leave the house, due to the winds, rain and hail. This was a great chance to cozy up at home, by the fire, something I usually don’t get around to. The next day, however, the weather improved slightly, and I went to run errands. I had to stop by the sea though, to admire its power and to charge myself with its endless energies. Upon leaving the house, I tried on every single ‘warm’ item in my closet – trying to look stylish yet comfortable. Usually, I don’t like too much black, and this time I balanced the wintry color with bright beige. This is the result:
A tight, black knitted dress is paired with a synthetic leather vest with furry lining. The vest looks ‘puffy’, but it’s nothing but fabric – and it’s pretty warm. I had to protect my ears and head from the wind, so I wore an especially cozy item, a substitute for the everyday hat – a headscarf hoodie made of thick wool, an instant upgrade for any look.
To balance the ‘big’ top, I wore tights with leg warmers – the fur on my shoes ‘corresponds’ with the vest’s collar. The see-through beige sunglasses, with a delicate pearl hue, were meant for wind protection, as there was no sun in sight. The silver-pearl bag adds a touch of ‘light’ to the whole thing, and of course, thee’s no forgetting about the hands – here I’m wearing fingerless gloves, a combination of wool and leather.
Pretty? You’ll be the judge of that. But warm? Not at all, apparently! The cold wind penetrated my bones and chilled me through and through, reminding me of my last visit to New York. I took the photos fast and was back in the car in no time.
Here’s to our powerful, mighty winter! We’ll wait for the sun to come back, but meanwhile – enjoy the storm!
