Frankly, there are many items in my husband’s closet I’d love to adopt. There’s nothing sexier and more feminine than a man’s button-up casually thrown on a woman’s body. However, this is a look for movies and bedrooms – walk around like this, and you’ll get the wrong type of looks. Accessorizing a masculine shirt properly is an art form – jeans, a short skirt and shorts are all valid options.
To skip all the styling dilemmas, the shirt-dress is a genius solution – part button-up shirt, part skirt, all classic pinstripes – a perfect combo of masculinity and femininity, in one fashionable look.
I’d fold the sleeves above the elbow to accentuate the buttons, but if you’re feeling the autumn chill, keep the original length.
If you’re in a romantic mood, like I was during my visit to Prague, go for gentle retro-inspired heels, like the shoe in the photo – the elegant result works itself nicely into a vintage car ride.
If you’re feeling sporty, opt for sneakers for longer city walks and comfort. As for the color palette, I decided to go baby blue, but this dress will work great with brown – a rugged leather bag and sunglasses, plus white sneakers.
I created two styling options on Polyvore, both inspired by my shirt-dress. Please note that clicking on an item will tell you the price and where exactly to get it, online or on your next visit abroad.
